Pathways
What is a “pathway”?
A pathway is the student’s individual journey through high school. Each student’s experience will be dependent on their interests, passions, strengths, skills, and future aspirations. When students have a voice in their education, they are excited about and engaged with learning.
Pathways is an approach to support students in exploring and defining their passions and interests to shape post-secondary pathways by:
● Our course offerings are based on the collective interests, future goals, and graduation requirements of our students;
● Each student has a Personal Learning Plan (PLP) that outlines their interests, passions, learning styles, and goals;
● Giving students a voice in their education;
● Students receive deep support as they develop their 4 Year Academic Plan;
● Support students as they learn and persevere through success as well as failure.
The ICS faculty and community support Pathways by:
● Building course offerings based on student interest and needs;
● Designing electives and content materials responsive to the interests and passions of students;
● Supporting the Advisory/Pathways processes;
● Facilitating reflection of student pathways;
● Helping students explore choices and possibilities;
● Providing state of the art resources to connect students with relevant information about career paths and the steps to get there;
● Helping students make community connections to build out alternative pathways when needed and feasible.
